KakaZabu Week 2021

What:

KakaZabu Week is an ongoing tradition that originated on my challenge blog Uzushi0, back in the day. This will be the fourth consecutive year of the Event, since it began in 2018. The pairing is “KakaZabu” or Hatake Kakashi/Momochi Zabuza from the Naruto fandom. We write and draw during June and then start posting for the Ship Week itself.

Theme:

I put out a poll and the majority of you asked for an overarching theme for the Challenge. I went with something simple, but meaningful. There’s certainly the potential to take it deeper or just write the characters “as they are,” because the theme is Swords and they both have one that they use pretty regularly!

When: June 2021

We decided to forgo sign-ups! There’s nothing special you have to do in order to participate, though an indication that you’re playing (here, on tumblr, or on twitter) would be celebrated, since it’s a communal fandom event. We’ll write or draw for our pieces until the ship week starts, June 20th. Then we can all post!

Posting will begin in the last full week of June, as is tradition, Sunday June 20th, 2021 and end June 30, 2021.

(The official ‘week’ is the 20th-26th but we’re allowing the additional four days for last-minute editions and delays, and there’s nothing wrong with taking the time to wrap things up.)

Writing has begun!

Once June 20th hits, you can post your story/art online on your preferred site and submit a link back here (or message me on any platform, so long as you send it in!). There will be a collection of links on the Challenge page (and next year, we’ll add another section, and so on!) for easy navigation through all the fills.

Post on tumblr/twitter/ao3 with the tag “#KakaZabuWeek2021/# KakaZabu Week 2021” (as appropriate).

Fanart and fics are accepted for this challenge.

Mission Rankings:

As a throwback to KakaZabu Weeks of ages past, and as a fun twist, I’m going to bring back the Mission Rank system we used to use on the Naruto challenge blog. When you give me the link to your fic/art, and I post the links in the Challenge collective on the site, I will organize them in order of ~rank~. To those of you who have done previous KakaZabu Weeks, you’re intimately familiar with this system. It reflects the ‘ninja mission ranks’ from Naruto.

You don’t have to actually do anything with this information, but you might think it’s cool and/or rise to the challenge of a higher ranking. Hopefully you find it as fun as we have in recent years.

For fic fills:

SS rank: 20K+ words or more.
S rank: 15k+ words.
A+ rank: 10k to 15k words
A rank: 7,500 to 10k words.
B rank: 5k to 7,500 words.
C rank: 3k to 5k words.
D rank: 1,000 to 3k words.
E rank: 500 to 1,000 words
Memo: Less than 500 words.

A+ rank: 10+ page Doujin
A rank: Fully Colored Comic with 3+ panels
B rank: Full Image with Detailed Background
